(On-guard Position/Ready Position)
In the early 1960's Bruce had a stance similar to a Wing Chun man, in the late 1960's Bruce had a stance similar to a boxer's, but in a right lead, but in the 1970's Bruce had no stance. All of the movements could be executed from either stance, so he was constantly moving around and switching to confuse the opponent.
It is important to be comfortable in your stance. Tuck your chin into your lead shoulder, have feet a little wider than shoulder width. KEEP YOUR HANDS UP! Have your rear hand up by your head like you are talking on the telephone, and your front hand in front of your lead shoulder, but keep your elbows in (about 2 inches off of your ribs). Bend your knees for stability, and mobility. Have your front foot on a 45 degree angle, and have your rear foot almost pointing straight forward (it feels uncomfortable at first, but your speed in footwork and power are increased dramatically by this one factor). Slouch your back out slightly like a cat (this improves your explosiveness). Finally be light on your feet, and bounce around, be alive and alert at all times!
